Science, Spirituality, and Some Mismatched Socks

5/09/09. Quantum physics is turning up evidence that the world is not only strange, but stranger than we can imagine.

Two particles, for example, seem to communicate with each other instantly, even when they're billions of miles apart. These discoveries are used to improve data encryption, and push philosophers to sit up and take notice of signs of unknown forces perhaps akin to the spiritual dimension.

I had read this a few days ago. It is interesting how the way that we believe the world works breaks down on the quantum level. For someone interested in the incompatibility between Newtonian/ Relativistic physics, which is how the world works at the macro level and quantum mechanics, which describes things at the micro level, PBS did an amusing and well produced documentary that is available for viewing online hosted by Brian Greene, who is a noted theoretical physics popularizer for the common folk. It ends up focusing on string theory at the back half, but it is good overall, I can recommend it for interesting and entertaining viewing (if you are nerdy as I am).
